Granada is best discovered if you visit it on foot. Start at Plaza Nueva and go the length of the Carrera del Darro and the Paseo de los Tristes, alongside the River Darro, in a charming succession of bridges, convents an palatial houses, at the foot of the Alhambra hill. The Real Chancillera, the Church of Santa Ana, the Bañuelo, the Cad Bridge or the Archaeological Museum are well worth stopping at.

For a genuine ramble nothing beats the labyrinth of the Albaicín, and you will immediatly see why it is a World Heritage Site. There is magic in every corner, and you can easily lose yourself amid its small squares, carmens and astounding views. The most usual place to admire the Alhambra is from the Mirador de San Nicolás, but you can also choose your own personal spot.

An another stroll, which in itself is a destination, will take you to the Sacromonte, an area filled with pathways, prickly pear bushes an spectacular viewpoints, replete with true flavour and a flamenco feel. You will just love its cave-homes and its curious landscape.

Treat yourself to an afternoon in the Realejo district: you will come across the Carmen de los Mártires and the Carmen de la Fundación Rodríguez Acosta, among other treasures, both harbouring two of the prettiest and delightful gardens in the whole city. As you stroll downhill and towards the centre, your are within reach of many other interesting places: the small square of the Puerta del Sol, the Campo del Príncipe, or Santo Domingo.

TOP PLEASURES

For a refreshing dose of relaxation, you cannot beat a couple of hours in a hamman or Arab bath: both your body and soul will thank you for it. Continue with a tea in the Caldería an let the night carry you away around the streets of Elvira, Plaza Nueva and Paseo de los Tristes: the best way to get into the spirit is to dine outside in a night-time ambience that has made Granada famous the world over, and which, if you are not careful, will only end at daybreak.
